Question 1

Is cropping PDF files free and secure?

Accepted Answer

Yes, the service is completely free. No registration is required, there are no hidden costs, and PDFs are created without watermarks. More information can be found here: ilovepdf.com/help/security

Question 2

Are my files saved or automatically deleted after cropping?

Accepted Answer

Your PDF files remain protected throughout the entire process. They are used exclusively to create your desired output file (e.g., PDF), and all data is always transmitted encrypted.

If you do not delete them manually, the system automatically and permanently deletes your files after a maximum of 2 hours. Third-party access is therefore excluded. There is no permanent storage. More information can be found here: ilovepdf.com/help/legal

Question 3

How does cropping a PDF work?

Accepted Answer

When cropping, you select an area of a page to keep. Everything outside this area is permanently removed or hidden – depending on the chosen mode. iLovePDF applies the crop to the selected pages and then creates a new, neatly cropped PDF without altering the layout of the retained area.

Question 4

Are the removed areas really deleted or just hidden?

Accepted Answer

By default, unwanted areas are actually removed from the PDF, so they are no longer visible, selectable, or recoverable. Unlike some programs that only crop the visible area, iLovePDF removes the content based on the selected crop zone. This keeps the new PDF data-secure and compact.

Question 5

Can I crop multiple pages at once?

Accepted Answer

Yes. You can apply the same crop to all pages of a PDF or edit specific pages individually. This is especially convenient for documents with consistent layouts like scans, presentations, or form pages.

Question 6

Does cropping work with scanned PDFs or photos?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Image-based PDFs can also be cropped easily. The resolution remains unchanged; only the visible image area is reduced. If you additionally want to make text searchable, you can apply OCR afterwards.

Question 7

Does cropping change the file size?

Accepted Answer

Yes, most of the time you will receive a smaller file because unnecessary content is removed. Especially with large scans or images, cropping has a positive effect on file size. For further reduction, you can compress the PDF afterwards.

Question 8

Is cropping safe if confidential information lies outside the desired area?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Since the removed areas are completely deleted, sensitive content cannot be made visible again. This is ideal for removing headers, logos, IDs, or other confidential areas before sharing the PDF.

Question 9

Can I further edit the PDF after cropping?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The cropped PDF can be integrated into all other tools. For example, merging, compressing, signing, or organizing. All removed areas remain permanently deleted.
